Claire's Story
A story of resiliance
Claire was a loving wife, mother of 4 and grandmother of 3 with a love of reading and travel. She had a successful career in the health industry with a passion for travel and reading.
In 2013 Claire and her family's life changed forever when she was diagnosed with dementia with the possibility of early onset Alzheimer’s. Her loving family rallied behind her and for the next 8 years they took care of her every need while her condition continued to deteriorate. It eventually got to a point where the family could no longer provide the level of care she required. Claire was relocated to the Hospital for her own safety as by this time she had advanced dementia with added delirium and hallucinations. As Claire was under the age of 65, she was able to access the NDIS.
Claire’s stay in hospital was quite traumatic for the family with the hospital unable to provide the resources necessary to provide the high level of care required. The hospital staff were unable to provide advice or recommendations for how the family should proceed. The one thing they were able to do was to get Claire signed up to the NDIS.
The family was provided with an NDIS plan and like so many people they didn’t understand or know what their options were. At one point they were actually recommended accommodation in a caravan park which is completely inappropriate for someone with complex care needs like Claire.
After 3 months of confusion the family was introduced to Aim to Enhance, the family was assigned a Support Co-ordinator who has been with them every step of the way. The family was explained every detail of the NDIS plan and steps were taken immediately to improve her quality of life.
Claire is now living her best life in Assisted Living. She lives in a fully furnished, fully accessible 4 bedroom house. Because of her complex needs Claire has the house to herself with 24/7 Support. She receives the highest level of care with fresh meals made daily, social and mental stimulation provided by the carers and all her personal needs met. Claire’s family has open access to the house and can visit her as many time a week as they would like.
